Amanda Menking is a postdoctoral fellow funded by the Women’s Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH) and supervised at the Institute for Gender and the Economy. She earned her PhD in Information Science at the University of Washington. Her research agenda is concerned with gender and technology. Her dissertation draws from five years of ethnographic research in the Wikimedia communities, in-depth interviews with English language Wikipedians, and object biographies of women’s health articles on the English language Wikipedia to interrogate how women’s health information is both produced and neglected.
She will be working in a partnership with GATE and the Women’s Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH) at Ryerson University to research women’s entrepreneurship, particularly in the area of femtech, and to support women entrepreneurs.
