Kourtney Koebel is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Toronto and the Institute for Gender and the Economy (GATE) at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. She received her PhD in Industrial Relations and Human Resources from the University of Toronto in 2022. Her doctoral dissertation examined the social determinants of labour supply, with a particular focus on low-wage workers and women with children. She has published several book chapters and peer-reviewed papers on designing and financing a basic income guarantee in Canada, as well as the political feasibility and framing of such a policy. Her current research aims at understanding the factors which contribute to persistently large gaps in labour market participation between mothers and fathers and the effect of income transfers on the academic achievement of children from economically disadvantaged households.
